Designed in 1968, it has withstood three major earthquakes for the city of La Paz without structural problems.

The project

The Santa Isabel Building is a 30-floor, 104-meter tall tower, with 29,500 m² for retail, offices and housing, in La Paz. It was designed in 1968 and, at the time of its completion, was without doubt one of the tallest and most ambitious buildings in Bolivia. The works were carried out by Constructora Bartos & Cía. S.A.

The structural challenge

The building was designed with separation joints that divide it into 3 blocks, a decision that improves its structural response and optimizes the cost and efficiency of the whole complex.

The Galindo solution

The structural calculation and design were led by engineer Mario Galindo Rojas, and our work also covered the structural optimization. Despite being a 1968 design, the building has a high seismic capacity: to date it has withstood three major earthquakes for the city of La Paz without structural problems.
