A four-story cantilever, on the edge of a ravine with a 30-meter drop.
The Torre El Shaddai is a residential building of 10 levels and 5,100 m² that rises on the edge of a ravine with a 30-meter drop, on Avenida Saavedra, in the Miraflores district of La Paz. Its architecture is challenging: it has a four-story cantilever and spans of up to 6 meters.
The building's geometry is not the one recommended for good seismic behavior, so the challenge was to resolve the torsional forces that earthquakes produce on an unfavorable shape.
Internally, special mechanisms were arranged to resist that torsional force. In this way we achieved a building capable of withstanding earthquakes greater than those specified in the codes. The rear, moreover, offers a panoramic view of the Puentes Trillizos and much of the city.
We design, calculate and verify structures in Bolivia and abroad, in person or remotely.
